Hey. You wanna go to Oslo?

In Europe there are a couple of really cheap airlines. One of them runs deals all the time with really great ticket prices for cities all over Europe. While perusing the website I found some really great ticket prices. So I said to my friends “You wanna go to Oslo.” And that’s how the adventure began.
We ended up buying our tickets for £24 roundtrip. However we ran into a few snags along the way. We had a REALLY hard time finding a place to stay. All the hostels were booked up and most of the hotels were as well. We eventually found a hotel that turned out to be great. It wasn’t until we actually got to Oslo that we found out that the reason for the lodging shortage was that Lady Gaga was performing the weekend we were there. Other than some minor travel issues we made it there just fine.
The hotel we ended up staying at was SO cute. The room was really tiny but perfect for what we needed. The shower in the bathroom was really nice despite the weird window (see below) and the floors were HEATED! We were also able to watch TV with either Norsk subtitles or dubbing. Finding Nemo with Norsk dubbing was even cuter than in English. Our hotel also had free breakfast which really helped with cost. What we were expecting was some cereal, bread, maybe some muffins. What we got was yogurt parfaits, lox, liver pâté, fresh baked bread, eggs of three different styles, fresh fruit, fresh squeezed juice and cereal.  We ate like queens.
Norway was beautiful! We had to take a train to get into the city so we got to ride through the countryside (picture below). It was AMAZING. The colors were just beautiful. The leaves in London weren’t changing so it was nice to get a bit of fall. While we were in Oslo we mostly just walked around. We found two museums that were free. The first was the art museum where I got to see “The Scream” in person. The second was a natural history museum. It wasn’t as interesting because we couldn’t read the captions but we managed to make it fun (picture below). After the museums we found the Palace. We hung out on the grounds for a while and did some rolling around in the leaves.
Our second day there we did a lot more walking around. At one point off in the distance I could see a very large wall. I told my friends I wanted to touch it. I’m very glad that I did because once we got over there we realized it was the wall of a castle! A CASTLE! From the 1700’s. So we got to walk around the castle for a while. It had amazing views over the water. We were really excited that we just sort of stumbled upon this castle.
Overall Norway was beautiful and really friendly and smelled like Christmas. People were incredibly nice and it was CRAZY how many people spoke English. I literally did not talk to a single person who couldn’t speak at least a little English. To cap off our trip, while we were waiting for our bus home from the airport in London we found a vending machine that sells books. A book vending machine!
